Hello, my name is Alisson Gossage and I’m a freshman in the Digital Media, Arts and Technology program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. For this project, I worked on the song list and reflection page, I also helped with cleaning up the text files. I loved this project idea and working with Lauren and Lindsey.

Hi, I'm Lindsey Wood and I am a Digital Media, Arts, and Technology student at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. For this project, I worked on gathering the text files using Genius API, developed the network graphs, and worked on the Analysis and Contributors page. I'm so glad we get to share our findings about Olivia and her songs as well as other artists.

Hi my name is Lauren McCurdy, I am a sophomore in the Digital Media, Arts, and Technology program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. For this project, I primarily worked on the Regex, Antconc visualizations, and HTML and CSS. It was fun getting to make visualizations comparing Olivia to other female pop artists.

Where, Why, When?

We developed this project for our DIGIT 210 class, Text Analysis, in Spring of 2024. This project primarily focuses on Python, XQuery, Regex, and HTML/CSS concepts to study and analyze large amounts of textualized data. We chose to study Olivia Rodrigo's music, as well as other artists, to compare the likelinesss of words and commonalities. Our visualizations curated from this data provide a "bigger-picture" to these artists' similarities and differences. Our conclusions found that Olivia's music largely focuses on realtionships and love as compared to the other artists: Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Billie Ellish.
